Waypoint is a GPS-powered location pin app built by Greycastel. Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what data the app accesses, how it is used, and what is shared.
By default, all of the following data is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to us:
Waypoint's core features run entirely on your device with no account and no server. We do not collect, store, or have access to this data unless you choose to enable Cloud Backups, an optional feature described below.
Waypoint requests access to your device's GPS and compass (magnetometer) to provide its core functionality: saving locations and navigating back to them. Live location and compass readings are used in real time on your device and are never recorded, transmitted, or shared. The coordinates of pins and trails you save are stored on your device, and are only ever sent off your device if you enable Cloud Backups (see below).
Waypoint can access your camera to let you take photos of saved locations. Photos are stored locally on your device and are not uploaded or shared — including when Cloud Backups is enabled. Photos are not backed up.
Cloud Backups is an optional feature that is turned off by default. Everything above stays on your device unless you deliberately turn it on. When you enable Cloud Backups:
Backup data is transmitted over an encrypted connection (TLS) and stored encrypted at rest. Access is restricted by security rules so that only your authenticated account can read or write your own backup.
Cloud Backups is not end-to-end encrypted. Your backup is stored in a form that Google (as the infrastructure provider) and Greycastel (as the operator of the app) are technically able to access. We do not sell or share your backup data, and we do not use it for any purpose other than providing the backup and restore feature.
Deleting your backup. You can permanently delete your cloud backup and disconnect your account at any time from Settings → Cloud Backups → “Delete backup & account.” This removes your backup and your account identifier from our database. The pins and trails on your device are not affected. Turning the feature off without deleting stops further syncing but leaves your existing backup in place until you delete it.
Retention. Backup data is kept for as long as the feature remains enabled and your account exists, and is removed when you delete your backup as described above.
Waypoint uses RevenueCat to manage its one-time in-app purchase. When you make a purchase, RevenueCat processes the transaction through Apple's App Store or Google Play. RevenueCat may collect:
RevenueCat does not receive your location data, pins, or photos. See RevenueCat's privacy policy for details.
If you enable Cloud Backups, Waypoint uses Google Firebase to store your backup and to sign you in with your Apple or Google account. Google processes this data as described in the Firebase Privacy and Security documentation and the Google Privacy Policy. Sign in with Apple is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. These services are used only when Cloud Backups is enabled.
Waypoint does not include any analytics or tracking SDKs.
Waypoint is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from children.
If this policy is updated, the revised version will be posted at this URL with an updated effective date.
